10 Years of Successes, Preparing for Success in the Next 10 Years

“It is our Teammates who have made this company successful and it will be the teammates who will continue to make the difference in the future.”
Gabe Beltran, Skylla CEO and Founder

Ten years of quality service to our customers, thousands of successful contract deliverables, and well over one hundred Skylla Teammates* operating in nine states who make a difference for our customers and communities we serve. On our 10th anniversary, it is appropriate to look back on our many proud accomplishments and look forward to our exciting future.

Skylla Engineering Ltd. (Skylla) was formed as a Texas Partnership in November 2004. In February 2005, we began work on our first contract – providing critical knowledge based services to the United States Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia – based largely on the expertise of the founder, Mr. Gabe Beltran, himself a retired Marine Officer. Our team quickly found other opportunities for our no-nonsense approach to vigorously executing the task at hand; by August 2005, we began working in support of U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in Charleston, South Carolina. In November 2005, Skylla was accepted into the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program.

Recognized by our customers for our efficiency and the knowledge and expertise of Skylla’s Teammates, the company grew rapidly in both the Quantico and Charleston markets. As a result of this growth, Skylla opened its first facility in Virginia in June 2006, located in Old Triangle, Virginia. One year later, in June 2007, Skylla opened its second Virginia office in Stafford, Virginia. And in October 2007, Skylla opened its first facility in South Carolina, located in Hanahan, South Carolina – near the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center. Our team quickly found other uses for their knowledge and expertise beyond these two markets and undertook projects for the Department of Interior and later the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVO). As a result of these efforts, in July 2008 Skylla established an office aboard the John C. Stennis Space Center in Stennis, Mississippi. And in April 2010, Skylla began working in Carlsbad, New Mexico in support of the Department of Energy.

By 2010, Mr. Beltran began work to prepare the company for its 2014 graduation from the 8(a) Program, and he recruited Chuck Muizers to join his executive team in May 2010. Beltran and Muizers worked to develop and refine Skylla’s strategic plan.

In the years that followed, our commitments to our customers, our teammates, and the communities we serve took us in directions we never could have foreseen. We pursued and won more contracts as a prime contractor, transitioning from the role of subcontractor to prime contractor. We rededicated our dedication to quality and saw marked improvements upon our already positive client evaluations. We identified, pursued, and won prime contractor positions on several multi-award ID/IQ contracts, providing us a growth platform for years to come. We leveraged Information Technology (IT) to modernize, mature, and streamline our internal business systems. We identified and implemented efficiencies to ensure we were increasing the value of our benefits package at a time when our competitors were decreasing theirs, ensuring we can recruit and retain the exceptional quality teams for which we are known. And we founded the Skylla Support Fund, a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation with the mission to provide financial aid to selected charities in the communities Skylla serves. To date, this initiative has raised and donated in excess of $200,000 to the Semper Fi Fund.

“I’m in awe of the accomplishments of our teammates, and I’ve been honored to be a part of this team. A team who honors our commitments to our customers, our Teammates, and the communities we serve. With each step-forward and each success, our momentum builds. Today, we are well positioned for the future. My imagination is alive with anticipation of what we’ll accomplish in the next decade,” says Chuck Muizers, Skylla COO.

“For 10 years, the company has not wavered from its founding ideas. We believe in commitment to customers, we believe in giving back to our communities, and we believe in each other, the Skylla Teammates. Today, on our 10th anniversary, the team can reflect proudly on what they have accomplished through their hard work, steadfast dedication, and perseverance,” says Gabe Beltran, Skylla CEO and Founder. “We have spent ten years building a solid base that embodies who we are as an organization and the values we hold dear. I am committed to adding an equally impressive layer on that base as we embark upon our next 10 years in the company’s evolution. In the coming years, I challenge our current Skylla teammates to take our company to heights that I can not yet imagine.”

* At Skylla, we refer to our ‘employees’ as Teammates, reflecting our value of teamwork.
